Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP)- Vampire Facial

Plated Rich Plasma (PRP) treatment became popular courtesy of Kim Kardashian.

PRP Plated Rich Plasma - Vampire Facial is one of the most effective rejuvenating treatments. Just one therapy with platelet-rich plasma improves quality of the skin . Rejuvenates, improves flexibility and smoothing the skin.

PRP has been used for decades for wound and soft tissue healing by orthopedic surgeons and wound care physicians. However, more recently, there has been a large amount of research and clinical evidence demonstrating PRP’s regenerative properties for the treatment of scars, minimizing pores, fine wrinkles, volume loss, hair loss, and skin rejuvenation.

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is a preparation of platelets in concentrated blood plasma with regenerative growth factors used to stimulate skin healing, collagen production, other important proteins that support the skin.

There are many clinical applications for PRP—it’s used for the treatment of hair loss, acne scars, surgical scars, stretch marks, pigmentation, volume loss, wrinkles, fine lines, and crepey skin texture.

The platelets, in particular, contain pockets called alpha granules, which secrete high levels of growth factors — more than 20. They've been shown to be effective for wound healing, as well as improving skin elasticity, volume, and texture.

When platelet-rich plasma is reintroduced to skin on its own through a non-invasive procedure, cell turnover is stimulated, and in turn, collagen and elastin production is ramped up for a plumper, tighter, and smoother complexion.

I SUGGEST EVERYONE OVER THE AGE OF 30 HAVE AT LEAST ONE VAMPIRE FACIAL TREATMENT PER YEAR, AND TWO/THREE A YEAR FOR THOSE OVER 40!

Who benefits most from PRP treatments?

Those with premature wrinkles, high levels of sun damage, or anyone who desires a fresher, more even-toned complexion are ideal candidates. However, if you have a history of blood diseases, including clotting or bleeding disorders, you should avoid PRP treatments.

PRP is a treatment with seemingly endless areas for application, and has undoubtedly opened the doors for a wide range of cosmetic and wellness possibilities. It can be used to turn back the clock on ageing, for acne, hair loss, or it can even be used for injection therapy to treat sporting injuries. Pretty impressive

A PRP skin treatment uses your own blood to promote collagen and blood factors. PRP works by drawing on your own blood and extracting platelets to use on the skin. “Platelets are the component of our blood that help to heal damaged tissue (skin) by producing new collagen and elastin and regenerating cells.

Dermapen microneedling enhance penetration into the skin.

What’s the procedure

We take a small amount of blood (similar to a normal blood test). This blood is spun down in a centrifuge to separate the red blood cells from the plasma.

Plasma is the yellowish component of the blood, which is rich in the platelets required for the treatment. After your skin is fully cleansed, the plasma is applied to your face and you then receive a mini injctions or combination of mini injections with microneedling treatment. The tiny micro-needles essentially push the plasma into the layers of the skin.

By inject the plasma directly into the skin, this helps to significantly thicken and tighten the skin.

Are repeat treatments usually required?

A series of three to four treatments will always give you best results. The use of medical-grade skin care at home will prolong and maintain the results. Always make sure you get good aftercare advice – what you put on your skin for the first 72 hours post-treatment is important!

Recovery and aftercare

In terms of post-care, most clinics will suggest using a gentle face wash (likeDMK Milky Cleanser, Cosmedix Benefit Clean or Cetaphil Gentle Cleanser) and a hydrating moisturiser (nothing too thick though!) or gel. Downtime/recovery time ranges from one to three days and side effects usually include redness and flaking.

Vampire facial benefits

In terms of vampire facial results, PRP works to improve the tone, texture and luminosity of the skin, as well as reducing pore size, and improving the fine crepey skin on the under-eyes.

The resurfacing effects will be visible by day seven, however, new collagen continues to be produced for up to six weeks post-treatment.

All skin types will enjoy improved tone and texture of the skin, increased hydration, a reduction in discolouration and redness, a reduction in the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, and an improvement in skin laxity.
